Center for
Sponsoring the Blinds
Dear sponsors,
My name is Duong Thi My Hoa, a Catholic
Sister of the Carmel branch. I’m in charge of the Center for Sponsoring the
Blinds, at Lagi in Binh Thuan province, Catholic region of Phan Thiet. I would
like to give our sponsors a briefing about the center/
A
brief history of the Center for Sponsoring the Blinds (also called House for
the Blinds)
The House for the Blinds located in the
Catholic area of Phuoc An, subdistrict 7, district Tan An, Lagi city in Binh
Thuan province. This place is also the practicing place for the nuns of the “Loving
for the Cross” Nha Trang. The center was formed in 2001 with the dedication to
ease the misfortune of the handicapped children, and to raise their personality.
Originated from the reality situation of the Binh Thuan province, where there
are many handicapped children.
With the helps from Father Nicolas Huynh
Van Nghi, Bishop of the Catholic region of Phan Thiet, we built a small center
391 square meters. This center has 3 rooms (2 bedrooms and 1 classroom), a rest
room, and a small kitchen for 15 blind students.
In legal term: according to Article
736/QĐ/VB/BT of the People Committee district Ham Tan issued on May 3, 2002.
The House for the Handicapped was officially allowed to open a private primary
school for the blind children.
Yes, the center was built and there are
students, but where can we find funds (money) to care for the blind children?
It is our big question and weariness. All blinds children came from poor
families with all living problems.
In the first two years, with all women’s
effort, the caring for blind children was already a burden. Today, the House
for the Blinds has more than 50 children with two characters: blind and
Catholic. Their conditions turned bad, first from blindness then hearing became
weak. Those poor conditions effect their movements, understanding, speaking,
etc…
All the expense for the center came from
contribution and support of the individuals. The center did not have any
sponsors from groups or associations.
Today, the center was completely full.
After 10 years of operation, the Center for the Blinds moved forward step by
step successfully, the blind children can integrated into society, their
education achievements were recognized as of normal children. Some blind
children earned good standing statuses. The shame of the blind children’s
social status reduced. The education opened the door for them.
Our blind children also grew up, both
boys and girls reached puberty. The old Center for the Blinds became small, not
enough rooms for different handicapped activities. The living section for the
nuns and services people was also too small. We need food, cloths but also
knowledge and education for the blind children so they can be self-sufficient
and integrated into the society.
The People Committee of Lagi city
permitted us to form the Center for Sponsoring the Blinds, so we can have wider
operations and to receive more handicapped children from the poor villages
nearby. Article 1823/QĐ-UBND (People Committee) of the city on December 29,
2011, permitted us to build a center with 3042 square meters. The money needed
for this plan is 6,800,000,000 VN dong (VN currency). This center includes:
dorm for boys, dorm for girls, housing for the nuns, dining hall, wash area and
class rooms.
Dear sponsors, to accommodate daily
meals for the blind children is already excess our capability, and with the
plan to build a new Center for the Blinds, we wish to receive your helps.
Please give us some bricks to build “The House of Love”, to ease these
misfortune lives. We always hope for the blind children to have foods, cloths
and education. Again we send you, the sponsors our thankfulness.
We wish that our sponsors have chances
to visit our center and we will be very grateful to greet you.
God bless you
